The first suspended swinging roller coaster was opened in 1981 as a prototype ride at Cedar Point's now sister park, Kings Island. The Bat was the prototype ride built by Arrow Dynamics. Plagued with problems from the start, the Bat was finally exterminated by 1984. After many tweaks and fixes to the design, Iron Dragon was the third sucessful suspended swinging roller coaster when it opened in 1987. Today, Iron Dragon is one of the few lasting Arrow Dynamics suspended swinging roller coasters operating, but actually has a lot of curb appeal.. Iron Dragon is one of those intermediate roller coasters, and is a stepping stone for those who need a happy medium between Woodstock Express and Millennium Force.
